    According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 17.4 km² (6.7 mi²), all land.

    As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 14,929 people, 4,796 households, and 3,716 families residing in the city. The population density was 857.8/km² (2,220.2/mi²). There were 5,313 housing units at an average density of 305.3/km² (790.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 73.27% White, 0.47% African American, 0.62% Native American, 0.48% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 22.12% from other races, and 2.97% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 75.48% of the population.

    There were 4,796 households out of which 41.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.6% were married couples living together, 16.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.5% were non-families. 20.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.02 and the average family size was 3.50.

    In the city the population was spread out with 32.4% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 18.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 90.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 a..."
